This is the first of 3 cook-outs during the summer months. All will be on our normal meeting night (3rd Tuesday of month) at 5:45 and all are at Snug Harbor for June, July and August.

Come on down to the waterfront and enjoy burgers, hot dogs, lil' necks and soft beverages on us and ...BYOB ! There will be a lot on conversation on "where the bite is ..." so COME ON DOWN !!!

JUNE 3,4,5:  2016 Spring Surf Challenge / Fishing Clubs Tourney

2016 Spring Surf Challenge
Friday 6PM June 3 Start to Sunday 7AM June 5th
1. Have Fun! This is a fun competition to promote surfcasting and to bring us together for a weekend!
2. 2016 tournament will be CATCH AND RELEASE OF STRIPED BASS and Bluefish.
a. Fish caught will be validated by a PHOTO with a measuring tape in photo and the 2016 Badge.
    Badge will be emailed to clubs as well as distributed at weigh in stations on Friday.
b. Striped Bass and Bluefish will be measured length ONLY. NO girth measurement will be taken.
c. Once photo is taken, the photo will be taken to a registration station for validation and book filled out by registration station. Then e-mail it to rareich1@verizon.net.
d. ANY SIZE FISH MAY BE ENTERED.
3. Teams will submit their TOP THREE LENGTHS for Striped Bass and Bluefish to determine TEAM winner.
4. Top Striped bass award will be greatest length. In the event of a tie the first fish validated will be the winner.
5. Top Bluefish will be the greatest length. In the event of a tie the first fish validated will be the winner.
6. This tournament is open to ALL Rhode Island waters. Including Block Island
7. Weigh in stations: Snug Harbor, Quaker Lane, Quonny Bait and Tackle, Sam’s Bait and Maridees Tackle

Sunday we will be meeting at Snug Harbor for Awards, Breakfast and Raffle. Striped bass are in decline and we are trying to be proactive by keeping this tournament catch and release. We will take comments and recommendations from anyone who thinks we can do this better or more efficient. We want to continue our Spring Tournament. Next "Big Raffle":  We have the next Big Raffle item It's a "custom built rod" from member Howard Reed of Narrow River Custom Rod Builders. It's a 9 1/2ft ODM (2) pc rod. The rod list price is $475 + tax. It's absolutely beautiful !!! The ODM surf rods are the newest and most sought after rods on the market. Their ability to "out-cast" other rods is amazing. Tickets are $10 each and will be on sale at the monthly meetings. You can purchase as many tickets as you like. When we sell (60) tickets the rod will be raffled. We're "half way" there, so buy some tickets !!!

number of children, ages and gender. Each child will get a prize, along with hot dogs, chips, soda, etc.. There will be plenty of "Kodak Moments"... so take a camera along. If you plan on attending  please call Ron @ 401-480-8955,

Earth Day / Beach Clean Up: Saturday, April 23rd, 9:00 a.m.
We'll met at Meridee Bait & Tackle, 304 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett at 9:00a along with the Narragansett Pier Fishing Club members. After a clean-up of various locations we'll have a cook-out back at Meridee's at noon.

Guest Speaker: Dave Anderson / Lure Builder & Outdoor writer for The Fisherman Magazine
Topic:  "Fine Tuning Your Plugging Approach"
Dave has been an outdoor writer for The Fisherman Magazine for several years. He is well known for his surfcasting
articles and his plug building section in the magazine on "how to" make your own wooden lures. His plug illustrations
are spot on and he's got quite a following form local plug builders. Dave markets his custom made lures under the name
of "Surf Asylum". For tonight's talk he will discuss ideas to help fine tune your approach to plugging.  

Awards Banquet: The Awards Banquet will be Tuesday, April 19, at 6:30 at Chiantis Restaurant. Tickets
are $30 and will be on sale at the meeting. As usual we'll have a great meal and MORE PRIZES THAN EVER !!
You don't  want to miss this function. If you haven't been before, ask any member about "THE RAFFLES"...!!
Tickets will be selling fast and are on a first come basis !!! We may limit out on seating, so buy early so you
don't get left out !  
             
Next "Big Raffle":  At the last meeting everyone voted on the next Big Raffle to be a "custom rod" to be built by member Howard Reed of Narrow River Custom Rod Builders. We talked with Howard and he's going to let us know what he's building soon, so we should have the particulars by meeting night ! Tickets will be $10 each.

Topic:  "When to use a Fly Rod": More and more surfcasters are adding a fly rod to their quiver for chasing stripers, blues, and albies.  Peter will discuss when and where to use a fly rod instead of a surf rod and the benefits of doing so.

Topic:  "The 10 Commandments of Surfcasting" - Tactics that have worked for me over the years and principles I follow.

Steve has been very successful fishing our New England waters for quite some time now. Locally he frequents Jamestown, Narragansett, and all of South County throughout the season and knows our area well. There's no doubt that many of you have fished or know him. He's a very knowledgeable surfcaster and a great guy to fish with. Visit his website for some great videos and stories!

Holiday Food Baskets for the Needy:


Member Mike Rogers distributed $400 to the South County Community Action Agency and $400 to the Narragansett Housing Authority in the form of $50 gift cards to Stop & Shop for holiday food baskets for the needy. Many thanks to ALL the members for supporting this needy contribution for 5 straight years !

Next "Big Raffle":


OK... now you wanted a " High end plug bag filled with lures".. WELL you got it ! We picked up a Gear-Up 4-tube bag and we've filled it with Beachmasters, Gibbs, Super Strikes, buck tails, tins, and pliers. The total value of the bag and plugs is $647+. The tickets are $10 each and you can buy as many tickets as you like. We'll raffle it off when we sell (60) tickets. We've sold about (50) tickets
so far, so only about (10-12) more to go !! So buy up some tickets so we can raffle it off !!!

 Tickets are $15 and the Club will pay the balance of cost for the meal. This is a members only event (no guests) and your dues must be current to attend.
We will have plenty of rods, reels, plugs, plug bags, etc for the raffle that night. Come and spend a fun night before the holidays with your fishing buddies and talking about the "one that got away...!"

Donations to the Needy:

Many thanks to all the members for supporting our raffles. Your contributions
this year have resulted in another $800 donation,  $400 to South County
Community Action and $400 to the Narragansett Housing in the form of
$50 gift cards to Stop & Shop for holiday food baskets. A special thank
you to member John McDuff for his continued support of the Needy Fund
with his annual donation of a 9' Tsunami surf rod for the November raffle!

Al's been around the block and back with creating fishing lures for striped bass. He's created more types
of lures (wood, hard plastics, soft plastics) than almost all the major plug companies. He'll share a video
of his new soft plastic plugs in action for bass.
